DIABETIC
Diabetes is an ever increasing problem and the fact that many diabetics are unaware of the condition is a concern, particularly with regard to children. On the plus side facilities are available where screening is offered at very affordable prices. M-KEM's 24 Hr Pharmacy offers Diabetic Screening Services between 08h00 and 23h00, 365 days a year.

Home Screening kits are available at far lower prices than in the past, enabling Diabetic patients to accurately monitor and to certain extent, control their Blood Glucose Levels.
However, there is more to Diabetic management than just taking one's tablets and/or injections and monitoring on a regular basis. Education in the handling of this condition coupled with the introduction of many new products either in complementary medicine or otherwise, could enhance one's quality of life.
Diabetes left unchecked will lead to major complications, from the eyes to the legs. Very few parts of the body are exempt from the effects of Diabetes.
On the positive side well disciplined Diabetic patients may be assured of a fairly normal life. As in the case with other conditions one should anticipate that the body does change. It is imperative that the medical profession be consulted on a regular basis.
M-KEM's 24 Hour Pharmacy has been proactive in this field, with specialised training being offered to selected Pharmacists and Nursing Sisters.
Specialised monitoring such as Lipogram (which should be measured every 6 months), Blood Pressure, Blood Glucose Levels, Body Mass Index, etc. is available at M-KEM's Clinics.
A Podiatrist (himself a Diabetic) as well as a Dietician are on attendance at M-KEM's 24 Hour Pharmacy for consultation by appointment. Members of the public are invited to collect reading material supplied to M-KEM by manufacturers of Diabetes related products and equipment.
Most Diabetic medications, particularly Insulin, are very expensive and, as is the case with other products, M-KEM's policy of charging R26.00 plus VAT as a capped figure is in place for these medications.
